Carving the Foundation, 2017

Live performance, 00:14:30

Corner Art Space, Seoul

Choreography and performance: Jean Rim & Natalie Mik / Camera: Corner Art Space

Carving the Foundation was a collaborative live performance with New York-based artist Jean Rim. The work presents a performative reflection on the act of collaboration and solidarity as a hopeful possibility to overcome collective trauma and to eventually achieve true transformation. The theme of collective trauma was investigated through the lens of the plastic surgery phenomenon in South Korea, a country where currently every third woman changes her face surgically. This site-specific performance took place at an art gallery located on the first floor of a mega plastic surgery building in Gangnam, Seoul.
